Common use of Training and Development Clause in Contracts

Training and Development. 20.01 Should an Employee (on active payroll) covered by the terms of this Collective Agreement propose taking a training course to either upgrade or increase skills, or acquiring special educational materials in the form of books, audio/visual and computer programs or establishing a membership of affiliation, the Employee shall by way of written memorandum to the Director of Human Resources request permission of the Festival to attend such training, or make the appropriate purchase. Should the Festival agree that the training would be beneficial to the Festival then the Employee shall be reimbursed fifty percent (50%) of the cost of the tuition and books required for the training subject to successful completion of the training and submission of receipts for the cost. No payment shall be made by the Festival to cover the time spent on the training, travel costs, meal costs etc. Should an Employee not get prior approval for the course then there will be no entitlement to reimbursement of any costs associated with the training. Any training course initiated by the Festival is to be fully paid for by the Festival.
