Common use of Thickness Clause in Contracts

Thickness. The total pavement thickness of the HMA pavement will be based on a specified spread rate or plan thickness as shown in the Contract Documents. Before paving, propose a spread rate or thickness for each individual layer meeting the requirements of this specification, which when combined with other layers (as applicable) will equal the plan spread rate or thickness. When the total pavement thickness is specified as plan thickness, the plan thickness and individual layer thickness will be converted to spread rate using the following equation: Spread rate (lbs/yd2) = t x Gmm x 43.3 where: t = Thickness (in.) (Plan thickness or individual layer thickness) Gmm = Maximum specific gravity from the mix design For target purposes only, spread rate calculations shall be rounded to the nearest whole number.
