THE CHURCH EXISTS FOR MISSION Sample Clauses

THE CHURCH EXISTS FOR MISSION. Church is seen as a dispenser of religious goods and services. People come to church to be “fed,” to have their needs met through quality programs, and to have the professionals teach their children about God. I go to church. Consumer Church “This is the whole of Christianity. There is nothing else. It is easy to get muddled about that. It is easy to think that the Church has a lot of different objects – education, building, missions, holding services. The Church exists for nothing else but to draw men into Xxxxxx, to make them little Christs [Xxxxxx-like]. If they are not doing that, all the cathedrals, clergy, missions, sermons, even the Bible itself, are simply a waste of time. God became Man for no other purpose. It is even doubtful, you know, whether the whole universe was created for any other purpose. It says in the Bible that the whole universe was made for Xxxxxx and that everything is to be gathered together in him” (X.X. Xxxxx).7 is different than WI xxxxxxxxxxxxxxXxxxxxxx.xx. A body of people sent on a mission who gather in community for worship, community, encouragement, and teaching from the Word in addition to what they are self-feeding themselves throughout the week. Missional Church The New Testament does not view the church as a particular building where people go, although it includes that, but the church is a people on mission. It is common to view church as a place to “go” and take whatever you can from it while not becoming part of the church, not serving the church, not being in relationship with others in the church, not connecting other people to the church. The people of the church are to come together to celebrate Xxxxx, learn about Xxxxx, remember Xxxxx, serve Xxxxx and then go out to serve Xxxxx, teach people about Xxxxx, and point people to Xxxxx in the particular context where they live, work and play. Xxxxx said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you’ (Xxxx 20:21). But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth (Acts 1:7-8). Xxxxx commands the church to be sent through the power of the Holy Spirit. We are to be sent to the immediate culture where God has placed us, as well as, to all the earth if the opportunity arises. People are first and foremost missionaries in their homes, neighborhoods, workplaces, communities, cities and wherever else God may call them....
