A Terminal Appointment clause defines the conditions and procedures for ending an individual's appointment or position at the conclusion of a specified term or upon the occurrence of certain events. Typically, this clause outlines the notice requirements, any severance or final compensation due, and the responsibilities of both parties during the transition period. Its core practical function is to provide clarity and predictability regarding the end of an appointment, thereby minimizing disputes and ensuring a smooth transition.
Terminal Appointment. A “Terminal Appointment” may be issued only upon the denial of tenure or upon the decision not to reappoint a non-tenured Faculty Member. Services terminate at the conclusion of the appointment. Terminal appointments as such are not issued to Faculty with tenure.
