Common use of Student Exchanges Clause in Contracts

Student Exchanges. 4.1 Each Party ("Host Institution") agrees that students ("Students") enrolled in a program of the other Party ("Home Institution"), may, on a full-time basis, for a minimum of one academic term, and up to a maximum of one academic year, enrol in a program of study offered by the Host Institution, provided that the Students meet the Host Institution’s admissions requirements for the chosen program. 4.2 Each year, the Parties shall agree on the number of Students who may participate in the exchange program. If in any given year a significant imbalance arises between the number of participating Students of one Party and that of the participating Students of the other Party, the difference could be offset in the following year. However, the balance is flexible within reasonable limits, at the discretion of the Host Institution. 4.3 By meeting the requirements of specific programs, Students of UFRGS may apply for admission to UdeM in the programs listed and updated periodically on the Web site of UdeM's Direction des affaires internationales (“DAI”) / International Affairs Office. 4.4 The Home Institution is responsible for the selection of Students who will participate in the exchange program, and the Host Institution is responsible for the admissions process, of the selected Students, to one of its programs of study. 4.5 Any Student wishing to participate in the exchange program must abide by the following conditions: a) Register with the Host Institution for a program approved by its academic authorities; b) If the Student is enrolled in an undergraduate (Bachelor’s) program at the Home Institution, it must have successfully completed at least one year of full-time studies in the program in which it is enrolled, remain in the same program during its stay at the Host Institution, and obtain the approval of the Home Institution as to the program of study in which they wish to enrol at the Host Institution and notify the latter; c) If the Student is enrolled in a graduate program (Master’s or PhD) at the Home Institution, it must have successfully completed at least one term of full-time studies in the program in which it is enrolled, remain in the same program during its stay at the Host Institution, and obtain the approval of the Home Institution as to the program in which it wishes to enrol at the Host Institution; d) Continue to be registered full-time for at least one term, but no more than one academic year, in the program in which it is enrolled at the Host Institution; e) Have an excellent academic record; f) Meet the language requirements of the Host Institution, as appropriate; g) Meet the requirements of the Home Institution and the Host Institution with regard to participation in the exchange program; h) Pay the following fees: (i) tuition fees owed to the Home Institution, the Student being thus exempted from paying the tuition fees normally owed to the Host Institution; (ii) miscellaneous fees charged by the Host Institution (including administrative, student activities, and health insurance fees), the nature and amount of which will be communicated to the Student by the Home Institution at the beginning of the selection process. In particular, Students of UFRGS, when registered at UdeM, are automatically enrolled in a group medical insurance plan to which they are obliged to subscribe and for which they must pay the premiums. For UdeM Students registered at UFRGS, they must pay for the national registration (Registro Nacional de Estrangeiro) fees, the CPF fees (Cadastro de Pessoa Física), the TRI card for local transportation, and must hold comprehensive healthcare insurance that includes medical coverage and repatriation expenses. (iii) costs of transportation, accommodation (room and board) and personal expenses of the Students and its dependents. Each Institution shall assist visiting students as much as possible with housing arrangements; 4.6 If the Student wishes to benefit from a financial assistance program, it must submit its request file to the Home Institution. 4.7 The Host Institution shall commit to the following: a) The courses in which the Students will be enrolled shall be taught by academic experts in their fields that meet the standards of the Host Institution. b) Issue to Students a certificate which, as the case may be, (i) attests that the Students were enrolled at the Host Institution in the identified program of study or (ii) indicates the name and number of the courses that the Students achieved and the grades they obtained for each such course. c) Provide the Home Institution with a copy of the certificate referred to in subparagraph 4.7 (b) of the Agreement, for all Students who have completed the courses in which they were enrolled. It is up to the Home Institution to determine the equivalencies it will grant its Students for courses taken at the Host Institution. d) The Host Institution authorizes the Home Institution to use its name in Student certificates but only for the purpose of demonstrating that the concerned Students have attended, at the Host Institution, the courses of the program in which they are enrolled at the Home Institution.

For UdeM Students registered at UFRGSCU, they must pay provide proof of health and personal liability insurance applying to life, health, and property claims including consequential financial damages, effective for the national registration (Registro Nacional de Estrangeiro) fees, duration of the CPF fees (Cadastro de Pessoa Física), the TRI card for local transportation, and must hold comprehensive healthcare insurance that includes medical coverage and repatriation expenses.exchange program; (iii) costs of transportation, transportation and accommodation (room and board) and personal expenses of the Students and its their dependents. It is up to the Home Institution to determine the equivalencies it will grant its Students for courses taken at the Host Institution. d) The Host Institution authorizes the Home Institution to use its name in Student certificates but only for the purpose of demonstrating that the concerned Students have attended, at the Host Institution, the attended courses of the program of study in which they are enrolled at the Home Institution.
