Step Up Pay. Any Employee required to fill temporarily a position, for a period of one shift or more, for which a higher rate of wages than that for such employee's regular work is paid, shall receive the higher rate while so employed and employees required to fill temporarily a position for which a lower rate than that paid for such employee's work has been established shall not suffer any reduction in pay by reason thereof. This provision does not provide additional pay for any senior constable who is filling in during the absence of a shift NCO/Sergeant, unless the Sergeant is off duty for Thirty (30) calendar days or more per illness or absence. (This 30 day provision as noted above comes into effect January 1, 2004).
Step Up Pay. Any employee who is required to do the work of a' higher paid classification for more than two continuous days shall receive the regular pay rate of such higher classification for all time worked at such higher classification.

C. The senior Patrol Officer on a Patrol Shift shall be paid automatically at the next higher rate when the next higher rank is absent as described as above. D. Employees shall not be rotated in the higher grade (rank, rate) position in order to circumvent this section.
Step Up Pay. An employee who is temporarily assigned to a Bargaining Unit job, except for training purposes and such job is paid at a higher rate than the employee’s regular job and the employee works at such job for two (2) hours or more, that employee will be paid at the higher rate above his regular rate of pay, whichever is less, for the time actually so worked. The employee with the most Bargaining Unit seniority on the crew and/or at the location shall receive the step-up assignment. Any existing bargaining unit position which is filled on a step-up basis, except for illness, vacation, or other approved leave of absence or injury, for sixty (60) work days or more in a given year, unless extended by mutual written agreement, shall be posted for bid. Step Up Pay. A. In the event that an individual employee temporarily substitutes in a position with a higher classification than their regular classification, the employee’s salary will be adjusted as follows: 1. No adjustment will be made for substitutions of less than three (3) working days duration. 2. When substitution exceeds three (3) working days: All employees substituting for position in a higher classification will be paid at the salary increment step in the higher classification which exceeds their regular salary or at the base pay rate of the substitute position, whichever is greater. This compensation will be retroactive to the initial three (3) days.

Where a firefighter is temporarily assigned to fill a vacant officer’s position as a Station Supervisor, the firefighter will be paid at a rate that is 95% of the difference between the base wage hourly rate between 1st Class Firefighter and the Lieutenant’s base wage rate. a. The most senior non-probationary Firefighter on-duty shall assume the Station Supervisory position in the event that a staffed station does not have a commissioned officer on-duty. 2. Where any firefighter, who is on an active eligibility list and, is temporarily assigned in an Acting Lieutenant position will be paid the Lieutenant’s wage rate. 3. Where any Lieutenant is temporarily assigned in an Acting Battalion Chief position will be paid at a rate of 95% of the Battalion Chief wage.
