Split Classrooms Clause Samples
Split Classrooms. Combination classes create particular challenges that must be recognized and addressed to create the best teaching/learning environment possible. Evaluators shall take into account the particular difficulties of such an assignment, e.g., classroom management and curricula for two groups. When there is a need to create a combination class, affected teachers and the principal will work cooperatively to decide the best grouping for the combination class. The team will give due consideration to academic, environmental, and behavioral influences that may impact class composition. When combination classes are initially formed, the number of students assigned to the combination class shall be smaller than single-grade classes.
Split Classrooms. A teacher assigned to a split class shall be entitled to receive a stipend as prescribed in Schedule B of Appendix C. In order to promote continuity of instruction, and minimize the assignment of new teachers to split classrooms, the district seeks to encourage veteran teachers to assume such positions. The following procedures will therefore be implemented as a supplement to the elementary assignment process described above.
i. Prior to June 15, any elementary teacher may voluntarily assume assignment to a split classroom for the subsequent school year. The position vacated by such a volunteer will be filled with a new hire (i.e. it will not be subject to bid by existing staff members). It is assumed that after completing one school year in the split classroom, the volunteer teacher will revert to the position he/she previously held and his/her assignment for the next and subsequent years will follow the regular process outlined earlier in this section. Assignment of the new hire who replaced the volunteer teacher will also follow the regular process outlined earlier in this section for the following and subsequent years.
