Split Classes. a. No split classes shall exceed twenty-three (23) pupils in Grades 1, 2, 3; or twenty-eight (28) pupils in Grades 4-5. A split class may not accept additional students. b. The administration will involve teachers in the decision process with respect to the creation of split classes. The District will make every reasonable effort to avoid split classes which may result in larger class sizes in single classrooms. c. Reasonable effort shall be made to avoid split (combination) classes in the elementary grades. If a split becomes necessary, consideration shall be given to the suitability of the students for independent work when they are selected for inclusion in the class. d. Split classes will only be utilized at the elementary level to avoid the need for additional facilities.
