Shift Duration. (a) In the event that an existing shift duration (i) does not result in the provision of satisfactory service to the public; or (ii) is operationally impractical for other reasons; the Employer will consult with the Union, with the view to minimizing any adverse effects that a change to existing shift duration may have on Employees. (b) The Employer will give the Employees sixty (60) calendar days advance notice of the shift requirement; and invite expressions of interest. (c) The expression of interest notice shall include the required: (i) number of Employees; (ii) classification; (iii) abilities, experience, qualifications, special skills and physical fitness, where applicable, reflecting the functions of the job concerned; and (iv) shift duration. (d) If there are more qualified volunteers than required, preference in filling the positions shall be given to the Employees with the greatest length of seniority. (e) If there are fewer qualified volunteers than required, the Employer shall staff the shifts with qualified Employees, in reverse order of seniority. (f) Nothing in this Article precludes the Employer from: (i) maintaining any and all shift arrangements in effect prior to the signing of this Agreement; (ii) hiring Employees to staff a specific shift duration; (iii) continuously assigning an Employee to a specific shift duration at the Employee’s request, where such continuing assignment is acceptable to the Employer.
