The Shift Duration clause defines the specific length of time that an employee is expected to work during a single shift. Typically, this clause will state the start and end times for each shift or specify the total number of hours per shift, and may also address variations for different days or roles. By clearly outlining the expected working hours, this clause helps both employers and employees understand their obligations and ensures proper scheduling, thereby reducing confusion and potential disputes over work hours.
Shift Duration. (a) In the event that an existing shift duration
(i) does not result in the provision of satisfactory service to the public; or
(ii) is operationally impractical for other reasons; the Employer will consult with the Union, with the view to minimizing any adverse effects that a change to existing shift duration may have on Employees.
(b) The Employer will give the Employees sixty (60) calendar days advance notice of the shift requirement; and invite expressions of interest.
(c) The expression of interest notice shall include the required:
(i) number of Employees;
(ii) classification;
(iii) abilities, experience, qualifications, special skills and physical fitness, where applicable, reflecting the functions of the job concerned; and
(iv) shift duration.
(d) If there are more qualified volunteers than required, preference in filling the positions shall be given to the Employees with the greatest length of seniority.
(e) If there are fewer qualified volunteers than required, the Employer shall staff the shifts with qualified Employees, in reverse order of seniority.
(f) Nothing in this Article precludes the Employer from:
(i) maintaining any and all shift arrangements in effect prior to the signing of this Agreement;
(ii) hiring Employees to staff a specific shift duration;
(iii) continuously assigning an Employee to a specific shift duration at the Employee’s request, where such continuing assignment is acceptable to the Employer.
Shift Duration. (a) Ordinary time shifts must be continuous and limited in duration to a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 10 ordinary hours. The parties agree to a commitment to review part-time and full- time shifts less than 6 hours, with a view to increasing the minimum shift lengths where practical, taking into account operational requirements.
(b) Notwithstanding Clause 24.2(a), by agreement between Trident and the majority of Employees concerned in a particular work group, or site, ordinary working hours exceeding 10 but not exceeding 12 hours per shift may be introduced subject to:
(i) proper health monitoring procedures being introduced;
(ii) suitable roster arrangements being made;
(iii) proper supervision being provided;
(iv) adequate breaks being provided; and
(v) an adequate trial or review process being implemented where 12 hour shifts are being introduced for the first time.
(c) Employees are entitled to be represented by the Union, or other representative of their choice, for the purposes of negotiating such an agreement. Once agreement is reached it must be reduced to writing and kept as a time and wages record.
(d) Clause 24.2(b) is not intended to prevent Trident implementing 12 hour rosters through the use of regular rostered overtime (subject to the requirements in the section 62 of the Act in relation to the right of Trident to require reasonable overtime) or individual flexibility arrangements made pursuant to Clause 8.

Shifts that are regularly worked by nurses are the following: Day shift: 07:00-15:00 Evening shift: 15:00-23:00 On-Call/Stand-By shift: 23:00-07:00 Swing shift: 12:00-20:00 In addition, nurses may agree to work a night shift with a single patient, which is regularly scheduled from 23:00-07:00.

Shift Duration. While the current normal work shift consists of an eight (8) hour shift, at the sole and exclusive discretion of the Chief/designee, ten (10) or twelve (12) hour shifts may be adopted and utilized within the department. In the event that alternative scheduling is to be introduced, the Employer will meet and discuss the matter with the union so as to ensure that proper coverage can be achieved in a cost-effective manner.
Shift Duration. Shifts shall be scheduled for one (1) week duration with notification of changes thereto being given forty-eight (48) hours prior to change of shift.
Shift Duration. The duration of any a single shift should not exceed 12 hours excluding handover time.
