Sabbatical Leaves. A. Governing Principles: 1. Sabbatical Leaves may be granted for the purpose of improving the quality of services provided to the constituents of Sauk Valley Community College. A member of the faculty who is granted such leave may improve services by: a. Further, the faculty member receiving the Sabbatical Leave shall make an oral report to the Board with specific comment concerning the value of the Sabbatical to the faculty member and the College. Failure to complete the specific purposes of the Sabbatical, the reports to the President, and the oral report for the Board within the following semester may result in requiring the faculty member to reimburse the College for the compensation received during the Sabbatical Leave. 3. Individuals on Sabbatical Leave will receive all rights and privileges of faculty. These rights and privileges include full fringe benefits and normal progression on the salary schedule. Length of prior service, the nature of the plan proposed for sabbatical leave and the order in which requests are filed will be considered. 4. Sabbatical leave shall be granted for either one-half or one full school year only. 5. An administrator absent on Sabbatical Leave will sabbatical leave shall receive all rights and privileges of faculty. These rights and privileges include the full fringe benefits and normal progression salary he would ordinarily be entitled to on the date which that leave begins. 6. Subject Application for sabbatical leave shall be made on a form furnished by the Superintendent. A statement of the plan for the sabbatical period shall be submitted. All applications for leave starting in September shall be filed not later than March 1 preceding, and applicants shall be advised of the Superintendent’s decision on or before April 15 preceding the proposed September leave. All applications for leave starting in February shall be filed not later than the preceding October 1 and applicants shall be advised of the Superintendent’s decision on or before the November 15 preceding the proposed February leave. 8. Budgetary provision for tentative sabbatical leave, scheduled to Paragraph C belowbegin in September or February shall be provided in the budget covering those calendar periods. 9. When an administrator is on sabbatical leave, the period of such leave is to be counted as experience in Chelsea for salary shall schedule purposes. 10. Upon returning from sabbatical leave, an administrator is to be computed as though guaranteed restoration at least equal to the individual were performing usual duties position he held at the Collegebeginning of that leave.

The following regulations will be followed in granting sabbatical leaves of absences of employees in the College or District: 1. Any employee desiring sabbatical leave must submit an application to the Superintendent through the principal. The application will specify: 2. Reasons and objectives for which sabbatical leave is requested. 3. Activities related to successful completion of sabbatical leave project. C. The schedule of events to be followed once a sabbatical leave application is submitted by an employee include the following: 1. Applications outlining the proposed program of study and the plans of the employee for the period of leave must be submitted to the Superintendent no later than February 1 in the calendar year prior to that to expand his/her capabilities to serve of the College in a designated area of needrequested leave. 2. Sabbatical Leaves are not intended to provide opportunities for financial gains. Therefore, All applications for such leave shall be screened by the Sabbatical Leaves Leave Committee, which shall include consist of one administrator appointed by the Superintendent and two employees appointed by the President. This committee shall review the applicant’s plans without names attached according to the following criteria: a. Improvement in work skills b. Improvement of knowledge in a description particular discipline c. Potential for curriculum development within class or building d. General improvement for the entire school district e. If more than two (2) employees apply and meet all qualifications, seniority will be considered. D. The Sabbatical Leave Committee shall submit its findings and written recommendations to the Superintendent and Board no later than March 1st of any salariesthe same year. E. Board action on sabbatical leave applications will take place no later than the first regularly- scheduled Board meeting in April with written notification of acceptance or a stated reason for denial. F. The employee agrees that the plan, grantsas approved, shall be followed unless changes are approved in advance by the Superintendent. ▇. ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ leave will be approved for one year and only to those employees who have served in the District a minimum of six (6) complete years and whose work is judged satisfactory by building administrators. An applicant for sabbatical leave must be eligible following the leave for three or fellowships expected to be more years of service before reaching the age of compulsory retirement. I. The employee on sabbatical leave will receive 50% of the contract salary and 100% of benefits he/she would have received if he/she had remained on active duty. The salary of an employee during the period of sabbatical leave periodwill be paid in monthly installments just as though the person were on duty in the District. ▇. Following conclusion ▇▇▇▇▇▇, service credit and status of an employee on sabbatical leave will not be impaired. Sabbatical leave entitles an employee to the normal increments as provided by the state guidelines. K. An employee may further his/her education on a scholarship or fellowship. L. Employees who have been granted sabbatical leave will agree to return to regular service in the District upon the expiration of their leave for a period of at least one (1) year. If an employee does not return to a year’s service to the District at the expiration of the leave, the faculty member shall file a written report with the President or designee of all salaries, grants, or fellowships actually received salaries paid during the leave period. Following conclusion will become due and payable within one (1) year following termination of leave, plus interest of 10%, or with such other time period as the employee and Superintendent may agree. M. If an employee should die while on sabbatical leave, the faculty member shall also prepare and estate will not be held liable for any salary paid while on leave. If an employee should become disabled, either by accident or by illness, to the extent that the sabbatical leave project could not be completed within the allotted time, no repayment of salary paid while on leave will be required. The employee will provide appropriate documentation of the disability and/or illness upon returning to service in the District. N.
