Resident Educator Program. A. The Resident Educator Program for beginning teachers licensed after January 1, 2011, is for the purpose of providing educators with coaching, mentoring and guidance that are critical to improving their skills and knowledge and student achievement. The Resident Educator Program will be a program administered and funded by the Board. This program shall be separate from and shall not replace the employee evaluation system. B. The Administration shall select the mentors for Resident Educators from a pool of bargaining unit volunteers only and no bargaining unit member can be required to serve as a mentor. Activities may include time spent during the contractual day, as well as for time spent outside the contractual day. Activities could include: New Teacher Orientation Day, after school sessions relating to the Resident Educator Program, meetings with Mentor/Facilitator teachers, observations or post observation discussions. J. Teachers interested in becoming a Qualified Mentor/Facilitator shall apply through an application found on the school website or through an email via the Lead Mentor. K. If a Resident Educator is unable to complete the entry year program due to no fault of the mentor, the mentor shall be compensated for partial contact hours, as defined above, even if they are less than the required 40 hours in any of the four years of the Resident Educator Program or mentor is assigned. L. At any time, either the Mentor Teacher or the Resident Educator may request exercise the option to have a new Mentor Teacher assigned. The Mentor Teacher and the Resident Educator must operate in a trusting and comfortable relationship; therefore, no specifics shall be given as to the request or granting exercise of this the option and no prejudice or evaluation is to be given any such change. 7. It provides a four year program of support and mentoring for beginning teachers licensed after January new teachers. The Ohio Department of Education (ODE) has created requirements for mentors in the Resident Educator Program. 2. Resident Educator Program. A. The Resident Educator Program for beginning teachers licensed after January 1, 2011, is for the purpose of providing educators with coaching, mentoring Ohio law requires that any individual employed under a resident educator license or alternative resident educator license and guidance that are critical to improving their skills and knowledge and student achievement. The Resident Educator Program will be a program administered and funded who meets eligibility criteria established by the Board. This program shall be separate from and shall not replace the employee evaluation system. B. The Administration shall select the mentors for Resident Educators from a pool of bargaining unit volunteers only and no bargaining unit member can be required to serve as a mentor. Those teachers who volunteer to Mentor Teacher must be trained to act as a mentor through the Ohio Department of Education Instructional Mentoring Program. C. The Mentor Teacher must hold a valid teaching certification/license. D. The Mentor Teacher/Resident Educator relationship is solely for the purpose of formative assistance. No information obtained in this relationship shall serve as a basis for any summative evaluation of the Resident Educator’s performance. All information, written or oral, shall not be used in any employment or re-employment situation by the Board. E. In addition to mutually agreed upon released time in coordination with the building administration, each Mentor/Facilitator Teacher shall receive supplemental pay in accordance with the chart below. In addition, the Board will pay all training fees required for Mentor/Facilitator Teachers to receive the mandatory ODE state training. Other than a notation to the effect that a teacher served as a Mentor Teacher, the teacher’s activities as a Mentor Teacher shall not be part of that staff member’s evaluation. 2. Mentor Teachers shall not participate in the District’s evaluation B. A resident educator includes a formal program of any Resident Educator. 4. Mentor Teachers shall not be requested or directed support, which includes mentoring to make any recommendation regarding the continued employment of the Resident Educator. 5.
