Request and Approval. Except as otherwise provided in this Agreement, written requests for leave of absence shall be made by employees prior to the beginning of the period(s) of absence and no payment for any absence shall be made until the leave is properly approved. All leaves of absence without pay shall be granted at the discretion of the Employer and must be approved by the Employer in advance (except as provided for under FMLA). Upon application by the employee, leaves of absence may be extended or renewed at the discretion of the Employer (except as provided for under FMLA). The appropriate Leave of Absence Request form is available online at the Human Resources page of the MPS website (xxx.xxxx.x00.xx.xx).
