Reporting Absence. Staff who cannot report to work because of sickness or other reasons are expected to telephone within fifteen (15) minutes of their normal starting time, to advise their supervisor of the expected time of their return to work. Staff members who commence work at 16:00 hours or later will make every effort to inform their supervisor(s) of their pending absences as early in the day as possible, and no later than 12:00 hours for the 16:00 hour or 18:00 hour shifts, or 15:00 hours for the midnight shift. However, employees failing to provide notice as stipulated in this Article through circumstances beyond their control shall not be deemed to have violated any of the terms of this Agreement. Staff should inform their supervisor of the reason for their absence. In the event of illness, exact medical reasons need not be given.

Reporting Absence. If an employee is unable to report to work for any reason, she shall so advise her immediate supervisor as soon as possible after the commencement of the normal business hours, her illness permitting, and at the same time, shall discuss with the supervisor the status and nature of her workload in order that the operation of the applicable area may be carried on efficiently during the employee's absence. The employee shall note any absence from work and the reason therefore on the attendance record immediately following her return to work. An employee absent from work hereunder shall, in advance of returning to work, advise her immediate supervisor of her return and make arrangements with the supervisor for such return.

Reporting Absence a. Since substitutes must be secured in some cases, and the adjustment of work assignments made in all cases, the immediate supervisor shall be notified by phone as soon as it is apparent that absence from duty will be necessary. This should be no later than one (1) hour before the employee is due on the job. In case of prolonged illness, the immediate supervisor should be kept informed of the probable time the employee will be absent.
