Regional Geology REGIONAL GEOLOGY. The area covers parts of Alwar district of Rajasthan State. The area is well connected by roads. The Bhiwadi – Sikandra Mega highway passes through the area via Alwar, Rajgarh and Bandikui. The area exhibits semi-arid climate with average annual rainfall of about 570 mm. The drainage pattern is of sub parallel nature. Numerous ephemeral streams flowing westerly join a northerly flowing stream which drains most of the area. The easterly flowing Xxxxxxx River drains the northern part of the area. Inter – bedded quartzite and phyllite B. Quartzite C. Phyllite D. Gritty quartzite, with inter- layered phyllite, carbonaceous phyllite, slate and schist Geomorphologiclly, the area comprises pediplan, covered with alluvium consisting of the Quaternary sediments, with isolated liner ridges. Trending N- S to NNE- SSW, which from part of the Aravalli Mountain range. The maximum height of the ridge is 454m and general ground level is 220m above msl. The areais occupied by rocks of the Delhi Supergroup (Palaeo to Meso Proterozic). Heron (1917) mapped this area under the Alwar Series of the Delhi System and of these rocks to the Delhi Supergroup. The nomenclature and stratigraphy of the area is based upon the GSI. The oldest rocks exposed in the area comprise metasedimentary rocks. Consisting of quartzite inter – layered with phyllite carbonaccous phyllite and schist, representing group of the Delhi Supergroup. These rocks are formation NNE-SSW trending strike ridges, with intervening valleys. The rocks of this area are being locally for construction material. Few occurrences of lead are known from rock of the eastern part of the area.
