Common use of Promotional Advancement Clause in Contracts

Promotional Advancement. The Sheriff reserves and shall have the right to make promotions based primarily on seniority, ability, qualification and performance of duty. Whenever possible, vacancies shall be filled by the promotion of employees already on the department's service. In making promotions, consideration shall be given to the applicant's seniority, ability, qualifications, performance records, and where practicable, to the results of competitive examinations. The Sheriff shall be the sole judge of the aforesaid standards, provided that such judgment shall not be exercised in an arbitrary or discriminatory manner.
