PROFESSIONAL COMPENSATION. A. The salaries of teachers covered by this Agreement are set forth in Schedule A which is attached to and incorporated in this Agreement. Each pay period each teacher shall receive the following information: 1. Gross Pay 2. Breakdown of deductions including: a. Federal Income Tax b. State Income Tax c. Social Security d. The Board of Education reserves the right to create additional voluntary extra-duty assignments and will use the posting policy. C. The following legal holidays shall be observed and all schools closed: New Year’s Day Thanksgiving Day Memorial Day Christmas Day Labor Day D. When a meeting is scheduled at the request of the Board, a teacher engaged during the school day in negotiation on behalf of the Association with any representatives of the Board or participating in any professional grievance negotiation including arbitration shall be released from regular duties without loss of salary. E. Teachers and their spouses are to be admitted free to all school-sponsored activities. F. Teachers will be paid on either a basis of twenty (20) or twenty-six (26) payments, but once the choice is made it cannot be changed during the school year. G. The Board may grant up to ten (10) years on the salary schedule for prior experience. H. Teachers will be granted three (3) personal leave days providing the following criteria are adhered to: 1. No more than three (3) teachers per building may be absent on personal leave on any given day. 2. One (1) week prior notice is required unless it is an emergency. 3. Teachers who do not use their personal business days will receive payment of “daily substitute teacher pay” for each unused day on the first payroll following the last day of school. Two personal days may be carried over to the next school year. 4. No more than two (2) persons per building may request personal leave on any given day during the months of May and June.

At the time of a teacher’s retirement, the Employer will review these contracts and, when necessary, revise the contracts for the five (5) years of service before retirement in which the teacher’s annual compensation was highest so they accurately reflect the sums which the teacher earned in each of those five (5) years. 11.12 The parties recognize that students are entitled to be taught by fully qualified teachers, while at the same time recognizing a professional responsibility to assist in the preparation of student teachers. Therefore, supervision by a teacher of a student teacher shall be voluntary. No teacher should serve as a supervising teacher more than one-half (1/2) of the total teaching time each year. This provision was not bargained and has been included for informational purposes only. Should 11.13 If the Employer determines that any committee should continue its work during the school year. G. At the time of a teacher’s retirement, the Employer will review these contracts and, when necessary, revise the contracts for the five (5) years of service before retirement in which the teacher’s annual compensation was highest so they accurately reflect the sums which the teacher earned in each of those five (5) years. 11.12 The parties recognize that students are entitled to be taught by fully qualified teachers, while at the same time recognizing a professional responsibility to assist in the preparation of student teachers. Therefore, supervision by a teacher of a student teacher shall be voluntary. No teacher should serve as a supervising teacher more than one-half (1/2) of the total teaching time each year. Except for the occasional matters that may come up, all staff meetings will be on these days. If there is to be admitted free to all school-sponsored activitiesno meeting on a scheduled date, teachers will be notified at least two (2) days before the day of the meeting. F. Teachers All extra-curricular activities compensated for in Appendix II must take place outside of normal school hours. All staff meetings must be conducted as part of the normal school hours. PROFESSIONAL COMPENSATION. A. The basic salaries of teachers covered by this Agreement are set forth in Schedule A B, which is attached to and incorporated into this Agreement. The Board shall grant no less than one-half (½) credit for years of previous related experience for those bargaining unit positions which do not require a teaching certificate. C. A teacher must work and/or receive pay for at least the number of days in a semester during a given school year to qualify for the next step on the salary schedule for the succeeding year. D. The extracurricular salaries are set forth in Schedule C, which is attached to and incorporated into this Agreement. 1. For the purpose of determining eligibility for experience on Schedule C, persons serving in head coaching positions will receive credit for years served as assistant to the position. Similarly, experience in a Schedule C position at the middle school will apply toward experience credit for the same sport/activity at the high school and vice versa. Likewise, class advisors will receive experience credit for years served as advisor to any class at the high school. (See Appendix for examples.) 2. The Board reserves the right to place new staff on Years 1-5 of Schedule C as it deems appropriate, but the Board will pay only for actual experience in Schedule C positions in the East Lansing Public Schools for years 6-10 and year 11 plus placement. E. All teachers shall be compensated in accordance with this Article and the annexed schedules without deviation. Salary is based upon the regular school calendar adopted by the Board in accordance with this Agreement and the normal teaching load as defined in this Agreement. F. PROFESSIONAL COMPENSATION. A. The salaries of basic salary provisions for teachers covered by this Agreement are set forth in Schedule A Appendix B, which is attached to and incorporated in this Agreement. Teachers may authorize deductions for tax-sheltered annuities during open enrollment periods of the carrier companies involved. 11.9 Deductions for daily absences not covered by provisions in the Contract shall be made at the same rate as earned. 11.10 Effective January 1, 1993, the Board shall pay directly to the Indiana State Teachers Retirement Fund each teacher’s three percent (3%) contribution to the fund. 11.11 The parties recognize that the salaries which appear on Regular Teacher’s Contracts and Teacher’s Temporary Contracts will be inaccurate whenever a salary increase is approved after these contracts have been executed. At the time of a teacher’s retirement, the Employer will review these contracts and, when necessary, revise the contracts for the five (5) years of service before retirement in which the teacher’s annual compensation was highest so they accurately reflect the sums which the teacher earned in each of those five (5) years. 11.12 The parties recognize that students are entitled to be taught by fully qualified teachers, while at the same time recognizing a professional responsibility to assist in the preparation of student teachers. Therefore, supervision by a teacher of a student teacher shall be voluntary. No teacher should serve as a supervising teacher more than one-half (1/2) of the total teaching time each year. This provision was not bargained and has been included for informational purposes only.
