Liens and Incumbrances. Contractor will be responsible for verifying and reporting to the County the existence of all liens and incumbrances against a settlement or proposed settlement of a litigated matter, and asserting all appropriate defenses to any such liens and incumbrances. Contractor will be authorized to negotiate such liens and incumbrances, and will be responsible for protecting the County’s interests by insuring that all such liens and incumbrances are satisfied, or will be satisfied, either by plaintiff/claimant, outside third parties, compromise and release by the lien holder, or by the stated terms and conditions of the settlement or proposed settlement.
