Requests for unpaid leaves must be made in writing to the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources at least ten (10) working days prior to the anticipated date of the leave unless unanticipated circumstances make 10-day advanced notice impossible. Requests shall include the reason for the leave and the beginning and ending dates of the leave. The Director of Transportation or Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources shall respond to the leave request within ten (10) working days of receipt. C. All leaves in this article must be approved in advance by the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources. D. At least thirty (30) working days prior to the date a leave is scheduled to expire, an employee shall notify the Director of Transportation of his/her intent to return to work. Failure to do so shall constitute a “voluntary quit,” and shall terminate all employment rights, provided that prior to the termination of any rights, the Director of Transportation has contacted the employee to determine the employee’s intent to return. E. Except for short term leave (Section 20.05), leave shall only be granted to employees with one (1) or more years of seniority. F. Employees who are granted and use unpaid leave on the day(s) preceding or following a paid holiday will not receive holiday pay for that holiday.
