Common use of Familiarization of Territory Clause in Contracts

Familiarization of Territory. A. When Conductors are required to run over any portion of the road with which they or any other member of the crew are unacquainted, a pilot will be furnished. B. When foreign line trains are detoured over any portion of the road, and the Employee of such detoured train is not qualified to operate on the territory, a qualified Trainman on that territory will be furnished as a pilot, if available. If none are available, other qualified Employees may be used as pilot. C. Employees from other crafts who are certified as Conductors may also be used to pilot trains when Conductors are not available for this purpose. D. Employees acting as pilots will be paid for actual time on duty with a minimum of a basic day.
