Children with Special Health Care Needs Program (CSHCN. Providers The Children with Special Health Care Needs (CSHCN) Program provides care coordination and access to specialty services through a system of community-based Care Coordinators11 and specialty clinics, thus enabling children and youth with special health care needs to receive a patient/family-centered medical home approach to comprehensive, coordinated services and supports. The MCO is encouraged, but not required, to contract with CSHCN providers. However, if the MCO does not contract with CSHCN providers, the MCO must provide the same level and types of services as those currently available through the CSHCN program. This includes access to multidisciplinary care. The CSHCN eligibility criteria and services are available from BMS. BMS will monitor compliance with this requirement; if the MCO fails to satisfy these requirements, it will be required to reimburse the traditional CSHCN providers at the Medicaid fee rate.
