Broken Shift Allowance. A broken shift is where an employee works two periods of ordinary hours on any one day as part of one shift and where the split is other than a meal or rest break. The break between such shifts shall not exceed three (3) hours. Where split shifts are worked, they shall be worked within a maximum span of fourteen (14) hours between the time of commencement and cessation of work on that day,(exclusive of meal breaks). In some cases the span can be up to sixteen (16) hours where there is mutual agreement between the Hotel and the employee having regard to safety issues and fatigue.
