Application and Selection Process. The “WIN THIS SPACE” competition will take place in two phases. Phase One is the application process by submission of a business concept. All applications submitted on or before the closing date (April 28, 2017) will be considered by the Panel of Judges. The Panel of Judges may choose up to 10 applicants as Finalists (the “Finalists”) for Phase Two. All applicants will be informed of their status in the competition, either as Finalists, or their removal from the competition. Finalists must refine their business concepts and submit a business plan, financial plan, and marketing plan to ‘Downtown Sudbury’ BIA. Finalists must show a viable budget detailing the ability to generate any remaining income, which the lease payment of the selected space may require, over and above the Grand Prize. At this point, the Judges Panel will select the ‘▇▇▇▇▇ ▇’ who must then prepare a 3 to 5 minute presentation, to be presented live to the Panel of Judges, at the live Finale, the date of which is to be determined. The Finalists will be asked to explain their business concept, and should expect to answer questions from the Panel of Judges. ‘Downtown Sudbury’ BIA is looking for strong business concepts, planning documents, and live presentations. To that end, Finalists are required to take advantage of business development workshops on Business Planning, Marketing, Market Research, Making an effective ‘Pitch’, as well as mentoring offered through the Regional Business Centre. Details about the Regional Business Centre can be found at ▇▇▇.▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇.▇▇ Any/all additional services utilized will be at the candidates own expense and not reimbursed for by the organizers of this competition. The Panel of Judges will use all documentation and live presentations at the Finale to select one (1) business concept as the Grand Prize Winner. Runners Up will be selected in the event that the Grand Prize Winner cannot be awarded the prize. The WINNING entry will be awarded the GRAND PRIZE, including one year lease (up to $15,000 – not including utilities or leasehold improvements), paid out as 12 monthly cheques. The prize amount is to be specifically utilized towards the first year’s lease of one of the available commercial spaces in downtown Sudbury. Any amount in excess of the noted prize will be borne by the tenant, in this case known as the Grand Prize Winner.

However, mentoring will be provided at no expense to the Contestants by the BIA and its partners. The Panel Top 10 semi-finalists must submit their business plans and supporting documents to the BIA bya deadline as communicated via website, email and/or other communication methods. (See the Appendix A for the Win This Space NF timeline and important dates) The Top 5 will be expected to present their pitches to the Committee and be asked to demonstrate via a business plan presentation on how the business will be displayed, marketed, etc. During this appearance, the finalists must be prepared to answer questions from the Committee and demonstrate product and business acumen as well as discuss financial planning for the purpose of Judges sustaining a minimum one-year commitment to lease. The Winner will use all documentation and live presentations be announced at the Finale to select one (1) business concept as the Grand Prize Winner. Runners Up will be selected in the event that the Grand Prize Winner cannot be awarded the prizeEvent. The WINNING winning entry will be awarded the GRAND PRIZE, including one year lease (up grand prize paid out by the BIA as monthly cheques directly to the landlord. If rent exceeds the $15,000 – prize money, the BIA will pay the monthly lease until the funds run-out. If the rent does not including utilities require the full $15,000, the BIA will award only one-year of annual rent. In the event the Winner cannot make suitable leasing arrangements to set up their business within the timeline provided in Appendix A or leasehold improvements)violates rules and regulations, paid out the prize may be awarded to an alternate winner as 12 monthly chequesselected by the Committee to fulfill the role of the Winner. The Winner will be provided with a list of possible locations in the Downtown Niagara Falls BIA boundaries and the Winner must then negotiate with the property owner(s) and construct a working lease agreement no later than the timeline as described in the Appendix A. If the Winner does not achieve a grand opening on or before the timeline as described in the Appendix A, the incentive package is forfeited and will be awarded/offered to a runner-up by the Committee. By accepting the grand prize amount is package, the Winner releases and discharges the BIA and its partners, participating sponsors, information providers, content providers, advertisers, advertising agencies, promotional and marketing agencies, and any other legal entity involved with or otherwise providing services related to be specifically utilized towards this competition and all their respective employees, officers, directors, representatives and agents from any liability or damage due in whole or in part to the first year’s lease of one award, acceptance, possession, use or misuse of the grand prize or from participation in this competition. Information regarding the Winner will be posted on the Win This Space NF tab on the Downtown Niagara Falls BIA Niagara Falls website,and will be released to the public through media alerts and other written, printed, digital and oral venues. Throughout the competition, the Downtown Niagara Falls BIA will actively seek available commercial spaces properties within the district that can be featured in downtown Sudbury“WIN THIS SPACE”. Any amount The Grand Prize Winner agrees to select an available commercial property in excess the Downtown. Properties must be located within the Downtown Niagara Falls BIA, and must be available for lease. There is no cost for property owners to participate. The BIA will connect participates to properties as part of the noted prize “WIN THIS SPACE” competition. Properties are active listings on public search engines. If a property is leased during the competition, it will be borne by removed from the tenant, in this case known as the Grand Prize Winnerinventory of participating properties.
