Common use of Afternoon and Night Shift Allowances Clause in Contracts

Afternoon and Night Shift Allowances. (i) An employee whilst on afternoon shift shall be paid for such shift 15 per cent more than his or her ordinary rate. (ii) An employee whilst on night shift shall be paid for such shift 30 per cent more than his or her ordinary rate (iii) An employee who works on an afternoon or night shift which does not continue: • for at least five successive afternoon or night shifts; or • for at least 38 ordinary hours (where more than eight ordinary hours are worked on each shift); shall be paid for each shift time and a half for the first two hours and double for the remaining ordinary hours. (iv) The ordinary hours of work for shift workers will be 38 per week averaged over a cycle of two, three or four weeks, and will be worked in shifts of eight continuous hours inclusive of a paid crib break of 30 minutes duration. (v) All time worked by a shift worker in excess of the ordinary hours will be paid for at double ordinary time (exclusive of shift penalties). (vi) Shifts will rotate regularly. The company may stagger start times of work groups within ordinary hours to meet operational requirements. Where work commences and finishes within the ordinary span of hours it is considered day work. (vii) An employee will be given 48 hours' notice prior to the altering of a rostered shift. By mutual agreement between an employee and the employer, shorter notice may be given. (viii) An employee who is required to change shifts during any week will be paid an additional $5.25 for each change, but not for the change back to their rostered shift. (ix) Despite any other provision of this Agreement, a grade 1 employee (other than a casual employee) who works an afternoon shift that finishes after 12am and at or before 2am shall be paid for such shift 30 per cent more than his or her ordinary rate.

(ia) An employee whilst Employee who works on afternoon shift Afternoon Shift shall be paid 25% extra on ordinary hours only for such shift 15 per cent more than his or her ordinary rateShift. (ii) An employee whilst on night shift shall be paid for such shift 30 per cent more than his or her ordinary rate (iiib) An employee who works on Night Shift must be paid 25% extra on ordinary hours only for such Shift. (c) A casual Employee engaged on shift work will be paid the casual loading and shift penalty, both calculated on the base rate of pay. (d) If an afternoon Employee (including a Casual Employee) is required to work an Afternoon Shift or night shift a Night Shift which does not continue: • continue for at least five (5) successive afternoon Afternoon or night shifts; Night Shifts (i.e., excluding an RDO or • other days off work in between the Shifts), for at least 38 ordinary hours (where more than eight ordinary hours are each Shift worked on each shift); the Employee shall be paid for each shift time and a half for the first two overtime rates instead of their ordinary hourly wage rate. No Shift Penalty shall be paid in respect of such hours and double for the remaining ordinary hoursworked. (ive) The An Employee who.: i. Works permanent Night Shift; or ii. remains on Night Shift for a longer period than four consecutive weeks; or iii. works on a Night Shift which does not rotate or alternate with another shift or day work so as to give the Employee at least one third of their working time off Night Shift in each shift cycle must, during such engagement, period or cycle, be paid thirty (30) per cent extra for all time worked during ordinary hours of work for shift workers will be 38 per week averaged over a cycle of two, three or four weeks, and will be worked in shifts of eight continuous hours inclusive of a paid crib break of 30 minutes durationon such Night Shift. (ivc) The ordinary hours Shift workers who do not rotate on day shift or day work at least one week in three, shall be paid whilst on such afternoon shift or night shifts as are out of rotation in addition to the payment prescribed by 21.7.2(a) a further additional payment at the rate of 20%. Provided that where an Employee requests to work for on a permanent afternoon shift workers and this is agreed to by the Company, they will not be 38 per week averaged over entitled to receive a cycle further additional payment at the rate of two, three or four weeks, and will be worked in shifts of eight continuous hours inclusive of a paid crib break of 30 minutes duration20%. (vd) All An Employee who, at the Company's request, is required to change from the Employee’s normal shift roster shall receive 30% more than the Employee’s ordinary rate for all time worked by a shift worker in excess during ordinary hours on such changed shifts as are out of rotation of the ordinary hours will be paid for Employee’s previous shift roster, provided that the above 30% shall not apply in the case of an Employee who has had at double ordinary time least 48 hours' prior notice of such changed shift. In such case, the Employee shall receive the normal shift penalty. (exclusive e) Provided that the provisions of shift penalties21.7.2(c) shall not apply when shifts are worked out of rotation at the request of the Employee(s). (vi) Shifts will rotate regularly.
