The original copy shall be handed over to the importer. The duplicate and triplicate will be sent by post to the Indian border customs officer and the remaining copies shall be retained by the Custom House. In order to avoid delay in postal transmission, duplicate and triplicate copies of the Customs Transit Declaration, along with copy of the original railway receipt shall be handed over to the importer or his authorised representative in a sealed cover, if he so desires. This facility shall however be denied to the importer who defaults in the production of these documents within a reasonable time to the Indian border customs officer.
