ADVOCATE. This element provides a number of facets, which may include advocacy to ensure appropriate service provision to a client, advocacy on behalf of a client with other agencies or within the psychiatric services continuum. It may involve advocacy in the community generally on behalf of psychiatric services or the profession of psychiatric nursing. The nursing practitioner is well placed to be an advocate on behalf of the client as a result of the detailed knowledge acquired of the client's physical, mental or social state, and his/her environment.
