Acting Assignments. An acting assignment is the temporary appointment of an employee to a vacant position assigned at a higher pay grade for which a Board approved job description exists and for which the employee meets the minimum job qualifications. Employees appointed to an acting assignment may be relieved of their regular job duties and responsibilities for the duration of the appointment.

Acting Assignments. 29.01 An acting assignment means the assignment of an employee to substantially perform the duties of a position as required on a temporary basis.

Acting Assignments. In those instances where it is anticipated that an acting assignment to a promotional position within the representation unit will exceed thirty (30) consecutive calendar days, appointment to acting status shall be made from the current eligible list in accordance with the provisions of Section 15.03 paragraph 2 of this Memorandum of Understanding. Such appointments shall be designated long term acting assignments and shall require approval by the City Manager or a designated representative. In the event a current eligible list does not exist for the classification involved, employees shall be advised of the vacancy and be given an opportunity to apply. The Fire Chief shall make a provisional acting appointment of an employee deemed qualified to fill the position from among those making application. When a new eligible list takes effect, the provisional appointment shall be rescind and a selection made from the list as provided above. An employee who is currently serving in long term acting status, and who has served more than thirty (30) consecutive days in said position, shall be entitled to be appointed in probationary status to the next permanent position vacancy in the classification involved. In the event more than one (1) employee is serving on a long term acting basis in the classification, the employee with the earliest appointment date shall be the one (1) selected for appointment in probationary status. Short Term acting assignments (not anticipated to exceed thirty (30) consecutive calendar days) shall not be counted for the purposes of this section. An employee who completes a long term acting assignment shall be entitled to bump another employee who is currently acting on a long term basis in the same classification, provided the effective date of appointment in long term acting status is earlier. Once an employee’s long term acting assignment has been completed and employee has served for more than thirty (30) consecutive calendar days in said assignment, employee’s name shall be placed on a re-employment list for the classification involved in the order of original date of appointment. Said re- employment list shall be of permanent duration, shall take precedence over any other eligible list for the classification, and shall be used to fill all subsequent probationary and long term acting vacancies which may arise. Acting Assignments. 1. When an employee is assigned in writing by his/her Division Director to perform all of the day-to-day duties od a position in a higher District classification due to a vacancy or temporary absence of the person normally assigned to perform those duties, the employee shall receive “Acting Pay” from the first day of such assignment until the end of the assignment not less than 40 hours.
