Common use of ACADEMIC CAREGIVER LEAVE Clause in Contracts

ACADEMIC CAREGIVER LEAVE. Full and part-time graduate students who are caregivers for a newborn child may submit petitions for academic extensions for up to a total of twelve months beyond Faculty of Graduate Studies deadlines. Petitions shall be submitted through the Graduate Program Directors and copied directly to the Xxxx. When considering petitions based on providing care for a newborn child, the Xxxx of Graduate Studies shall take into account the effect of such caregiving upon the progress of the student’s work. If the Xxxx decides not to grant such a petition, she shall provide a copy to the union. Such a request shall not be unreasonably denied.
