Transitional or Transition Zone definition
Transitional or Transition Zone means generally a zone that fans away perpendicular to the runway centerline and approach surfaces, with the floor set by the transitional or transition surfaces. The Transitional zone is the area (includes an area also referred to as the modified transitional zone) out to approximately a mile beyond each runway end and to approximately a quarter mile to each side of the runway, excluding the area within Zone A and Zone B1.
