  • This derives from the status of the governance entity as tangata whenua in the Protocol Area and is inextricably linked to whakapapa and has important cultural and spiritual dimensions.

  • The Ministry will provide opportunities for representatives of the Trust to participate in annual fisheries planning processes through regional Iwi Fisheries Forums where any relevant national fisheries plans include matters relating to Taonga Species management that affects the Protocol Area.

  • Such proposals may include proposals for special permits to take tuna/eels from waterways within the Protocol Area as part of any enhancement or aquaculture project.

  • When such an appointment or vesting is contemplated for sites in the DOC Protocol Area, the Department will consult the governance entity.
