Workload Flexibility. It is agreed that various programs of instruction differ sufficiently in the nature of the instructional assignment that it neither practical nor equitable to expect instructors in different programs to have the same number of classroom contact hours. Within a particular department or program, there shall be considerations such as class size, number of different course preparations, method of instruction, use of teacher aides, expertise required, and percentage of which would justify variation in the number of classroom contact hours assigned to instructors. To accommodate the differences between programs and allow flexibility within a given program, a workload range has been established for different categories of programs off Each program area, using the appropriate category of workload range, shall determine the specific instructor’s workload hours and initial assignment. Once so determined, any increase in workload hours beyond this value for the specific instructor, even within that category’s range, will constitute an overload for that year. Over a two year period, it is expected that faculty within a given program shall normally work towards the average of the workload range as specified for their program in Article Where possible, tentative teaching assignments will be assigned by June for the following academic year.
