Common use of Union Release Clause in Contracts

Union Release. The Board recognizes that it may be necessary for executive officers of the Union to be absent from their duties in order to attend to Union matters. Leave, without loss of salary or deduction of Sick Leave/Short Term Leave and Disability Plan (STLDP), up to a maximum of thirty (30) days in any school year shall be granted to the Union following a written request from the Union to the Superintendent of Education – Human Resources and Administrative Services. Any individual executive officer will be allowed a maximum of ten (10) days per school year for such leave. Should the Union request release time for an individual that is greater than ten (10) days, the Board shall consider the request. The President of the local Union shall be granted 60 days of union leave without loss of salary or deduction of Sick Leave/Short Term Leave and Disability Plan (STLDP) in any school year. The President shall meet with the Superintendent of Education – Human Resources and Administrative Services or designate at the beginning of each school year to schedule the leave days. It is understood that in special circumstances, the local Union President may amend the schedule with prior consultation with the Board. The Local will reimburse the Board for total cost recovery of wages and benefits for Union release.
