Translator Pay. 122. Employees who are assigned by their Department to a “Designated Bilingual Position,” and approved by the Department of Human Resources, shall be granted additional compensation of $50.00 per pay period for translating a minimum of ten (10) hours bi-weekly. 123. A “Designated Bilingual Position” is one designated by the Department, which requires translating to and from a foreign language, including sign language as used by the deaf.

Translator Pay. Employees who are deemed qualified by the Department as a translator shall receive an additional five percent (5%) of regular base pay, in addition to regular salary. Languages eligible for translator pay are Russian, Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Spanish, Sign Language, Ukrainian and Romanian. The Department shall determine the certification requirement for eligibility and may require re-certification at any time at the Department's expense. The passing time for the test will 27 be the standard used for police officer pre-employment and academy standard 28 (currently 5:30 minutes). All testing will be conducted thereafter at least quarterly in a 29 test administered by the MCSO Training Unit in accordance with applicable current 30 testing protocols. 1 Employees covered by this bargaining agreement who pass one of the tests 3 following twelve (12) months. The following twelve (12) months will be considered 4 the twelve-month period following a participant’s successful completion of the test. 5 After the initial two (2) tests above are offered, any employee may test on the 6 quarterly basis to qualify for the ORPAT incentive pay if: (a) they have not yet 7 qualified for the ORPAT incentive pay; or (b) they wish to extend their twelve (12)- 8 month qualifying period. Employees who initially qualify for the pay incentive may 9 elect to not test again until the fourth (4th) quarter of the twelve (12)-month period 10 after qualification, but if they fail to pass, they would not receive the pay incentive for

Translator Pay. The following pay provisions are in effect when it is necessary to utilize educational support employees to serve as Translators before or after their normal work hours. The pay rate has been established as Step 11 of Appendix C. If the employee is called in at a time not adjacent to their normal work hours, which would require additional travel to and from school, the minimum pay is for two hours. Individuals who serve as a Translator should use a separate timecard and record “Translator” on the top of the card.
