Training Grants. These grants are designed to support training programs that promote or scale up agricultural technologies that have been shown to improve food security and nutritional outcomes in Haiti. Training grants should implement innovative delivery models that engage a diverse set of agricultural producers and should include specific strategies to engage female farmers in trainings that promote technologies that improve their lives. The AREA project recognizes that many of the challenges facing the agricultural sector in Haiti are complex and solutions require scientists to work with each other, as well as with other professions and specialists. Support will therefore be provided for collaborative research teams – including interdisciplinary teams within the agricultural field, which combine researchers’ strengths, expertise, and experience, to address a larger topic or a research issue where more than one sub discipline may be required. In the Manual of procedure of the National Fund for Research and Sustainable Development (FONRED), it is stated that a collaborative research grant should: • Address specific questions • Express the need of one or several actors of the Haitian innovation system. • Reinforcement of competencies of all the collaborating partners.
