Temporary Defined. For the purposes of clarification, temporary employees are defined as employees hired for a specific period not to exceed the equivalent of ninety (90) consecutive calendar days. No employee benefits are provided except state mandated requirements. Similarly, temporary increases in current employees’ assignments, which do not exceed ninety (90) consecutive calendar days, will not result in an increase in benefits. Temporary positions and assignments will not be posted. If a bargaining unit member has been approved for a leave 90 days or more, the District may post a “temporary position.” This position is only for the purpose of hiring a temporary employee to work in the bargaining unit member’s current position temporarily while that unit member is on approved leave under Article 14.B. A temporary employee that fills this position will be provided insurance benefits as a regular employee for the duration of the employment in this temporary position. Any temporary employee hired to ‘fill-in’ during that bargaining unit member’s leave under Article 14.B will be recognized only as a “temporary employee” under this section, regardless of the number of calendar days employed in that position. The District may hire up to nine (9) temporary employees during the summer for no more than one hundred fifty (150) calendar days for District employment. Additional temporary summer help could be hired but would be limited to the regular ninety (90) calendar day limit.
