TEMPORARY ASSIGNMENT TO A HIGHER CLASSIFICATION. 1. When a Classified unit member covered by this agreement temporarily assumes the duties of a higher classification, the unit member shall be compensated at the higher rate starting on the first day. The unit member shall be placed at the lowest step of the higher classification which would result in an increase of at least five (5) percent. When a temporary assignment at a higher classification extends past twenty (20) full work days, the unit member shall be compensated at their earned longevity step, starting on the twenty first (21st) day, as long as the earned longevity step does not result in a reduction in pay.
