Special Days. In addition to the holidays specified in this Article, full time employees shall receive eight (8) hours of paid leave. Part-time, seasonal and job share employees shall receive a prorated share of eight (8) hours of paid leave at their regular straight time rate of pay based upon the same percentage or fraction of month, as they are normally scheduled to work. Paid leave granted in this Section, shall be accrued by all employees employed as of December 24 of each year. Employees may request the option of using this paid leave on the work day before or after Christmas, the work day before or after New Year’s Day or, when these days are not available to an employee, on another day of the employee’s choice; provided that approved usage of this leave shall be granted on a basis which shall preclude the closure of facilities. However, the day must be used no later than June 30th of that fiscal year or it is forfeited and is not compensable.

Special Days a. Special Dress is allowed on building ‘dress up days’ as allowed and pre-approved by the building principal.
Special Days. Each employee is entitled to three (3) paid special days in a calendar year. Special days are to be used to meet special needs for time off for personal business not covered under this agreement. One special day accumulates for each four (4) months worked but cannot be carried forward to another calendar year. The scheduling of special days must be approved in advance in order to ensure adequate coverage, but reasons for the use of special days need not be approved nor reported. Special days are not to be used as a vacation day. Where special days are not needed, they expire with the calendar year and are not paid out. For staff leaving employment before the end of the calendar year, the special days entitlement will be pro-rated to reflect only that portion of the year actually worked and any amount claimed above the pro-rated amount will be deducted from their final pay.
Special Days. When an employee’s work schedule requires them to work Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day, the Employer shall make every effort to re-arrange the work schedule so the employee shall have one (1) of those days off if requested which won’t be unreasonably denied by management.

Employees may request the option of using this paid leave on any mutually agreeable day between, and including, the day before Thanksgiving and January 31. Where no day during this time can be mutually agreed upon, another day of the employee’s choice shall be granted; provided that approved usage does not create the closure of facilities. This day must be used no later than June 30 of that fiscal year or it is forfeited and is not compensable.
Special Days. When the Chief or his/her designee deem a day on the schedule as a “Special Day” the use of annual leave will not be permitted due to the requirements placed upon the Department by University activities. Examples of “Special Days” include, but are not limited to, Fall move-in, home football game days, University commencement days and homecoming activities. Once staffing requirements are determined to be adequate, the restrictions for the “Special Day” shall be released. Special days shall be determined prior to officers bidding the shift assignments (reference article 16 section 1) and will be marked on the calendar with a, “S”. Any days not marked as, “Special” that have an event requiring the need for more officers shall require the University to post the event in accordance with article 17.
