SPAREBOARD. Spareboard – a pool of qualified Operators who ensure and maintain safe and reliable customer service to cover short term/long term absences and meet unexpected service requirements. The Employer will endeavour to maintain a number of Operators equal to not less than twelve percent (12%) of the number of Operators that will be required to sign on the properties for the new sheet, except where agreed by the Employer, the Sheet Chair and the local Union Executive Board, that a lower number is sufficient. The method of determining the minimum number of Spareboard positions will be based on twelve percent (12%) of the following, as required by the new sheet being signed:

SPAREBOARD. The Employer will determine the number of spareboard positions which Operators may elect to work instead of signing up for runs. The Employer will endeavour at all times to maintain a number of Operators on the Spareboard equal to not less than 8% of the number of Operators that will be required to sign on the properties for the new sheet. The Spareboard will be filled in seniority order and the least senior Operators who sign the Spareboard, in excess of the 8% minimum, may be required by the Employer to sign for any work assignments not signed at completion of the regular sign- up described in Article 'O' 2.01. The method of determining the number of safe Spareboard positions will be based on 8% of the following, as required by the new sheet being signed:
SPAREBOARD. There shall be a minimum of seven (7) Spareboard positions as part of the Slip process to be signed for each board period sign-up. For detailing purposes, Operators will be assigned all known open work, and detailed by earliest finishing times (when possible) to the first Spareboard position moving down the position numbers until the work assignments are filled. Full shifts will be assigned first and then any remaining portions of open work. Any Spareboard Operators that are not pre-detailed work on the “Daily Slip” will be provided with a reporting time as a Sitting Spare for the day and will be detailed work as it becomes available. After 5:30 pm any open work may be detailed from the bottom up.

The Company will issue daily postings of all spareboard employee’s and their relative standing as of 00:01 and 12:01, once per day, per board (am/pm). Copies of the postings will also be provided by email to the Local Chairpersons, or their designate(s).
