School Events. Bargaining unit members shall be admitted to all events sponsored by and held at Northwestern Schools without charge excluding fundraising events. A bargaining unit member will receive a non-transferable pass for that purpose and, upon acceptance, agree to intervene at such activities, as a District employee, if necessary to maintain order and discipline.

If a Bargaining Unit Member has an unavoidable obligation or an unforeseeable and emergency situation that would prevent attendance at a scheduled event his /her attendance shall be excused, provided that the Bargaining Unit Member has provided as much notice as possible under the circumstances.

School Events. Instructional Staff shall participate in organizing and attending events such as Family Literacy Night, Graduation, Open Houses, Art/Music/Drama Presentations, Sporting events, etc. The employer may designate up to four (4) announced events during the year as required for Instructional Staff attendance, and attendance for these events may be required until up to 6:30 pm. If a member of the Leadership Team is not present for events, Instructional Staff shall, to the best of their ability and to the extent of their provided training, strive to address any safety, health concerns, or emergencies, as they arise. Field trip permission forms need to be signed BEFORE attending (once per year per child.) These forms can be found at the end of this handbook, on the website or through your Educational Specialist. Please sign and return to your E.S. Most field trips are planned with an educational purpose in mind. It is our hope that parents will help facilitate the learning experience. While on a field trip, the parents are looked at as “chaperones” for the school and not just as a parent. This is how we are able to access such wonderful discounts within our community. As a chaperone, your participation is very important. In order to make a field trip educational, fun and a safe learning experience, we have outlined a list of rules.
