Common use of Reduction in Class Clause in Contracts

Reduction in Class. Reduction in class not resulting from a layoff situation will be made on the basis of the last man promoted to that class if knowledge, skill, ability, and current physical fitness have been demonstrated to be acceptable to perform the work. The employee’s overall performance summary shall be the best evidence of skill and ability. However, employees with ten full years or more of continuous regular service with the City shall have their seniority be the sole determinant as to their reduction in class. The subject in question will be reduced in classification to that classification last held permanently. Additional reduction resulting will be treated similarly.
