PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT / STUDY LEAVE. 37.1 The employer is committed to the ongoing education and development of its employees. 37.2 Up to five days’ paid leave at the employee’s ordinary rate may be granted to an employee to undertake training or to attend conferences and seminars related to the activities of the employee or for the development of the employee’s work skills. This may include trade union training. 37.3 Paid or unpaid leave to undertake additional study, for example TAFE or University courses, is subject to the approval of the Chief Executive Officer. 37.4 In respect of trade union training, the following requirements will apply: (i) That at least two weeks’ notice is given to the employer; (ii) The employer is advised the details of the education, training and events being attended; (iii) That the relevant union confirm in writing the attendance by the union delegate prior to payment for time being made; and (iv) Whilst the entire five days may be allocated to union delegate education, training and events, these days shall not include attendance at negotiation meetings for a new Agreement. 37.5 Employees may request to utilise Professional Development / Study Leave and must seek prior approval for such leave. Applications must be in accordance with the employer’s professional development policy. The employer will endeavour to approve such applications, subject to financial and operational requirements.
