Port and Local Switching Elements Clause Samples

The "Port and Local Switching Elements" clause defines the responsibilities and technical requirements related to the ports and switching components within a telecommunications or network system. It typically outlines how ports are to be configured, managed, and maintained, as well as the standards for local switching elements that direct data or voice traffic within the network. For example, it may specify the types of ports to be provided, their capacity, and how switching elements should handle connections between different network segments. The core function of this clause is to ensure reliable and efficient network connectivity by clearly establishing the expectations for these critical hardware components.
Port and Local Switching Elements. 6.1 Port. ----- A port provides for the interconnection of individual loops or trunks to the switching components of GTE's network. In general, it is a line card or trunk card and associated peripheral equipment on GTE end office switch that serves as the hardware termination for the end- users Exchange Service on that switch, generates dial tone, and provides the enduser access to the public switched telecommunications network. The port does not include such features and functions which are provided as part of Local Switching. Each line-side port is typically associated with one (or more) telephone number(s), which serve as the end-user's network address.
