Pacific County Strategic Plan for Salmon Recovery. The overarching goal of this plan, which applies to Water Resource Inventory Area (WRIA24) is to “reestablish the connection between fish and their habitat through the identification of human actions and their effects on salmon survival.” (Applied Environmental Services, Inc., 2001) The plan provides a framework for prioritizing and selecting habitat restoration and protection projects most likely to effectively and significantly contribute to sustained salmon survival. Recommended restoration strategies include removing migration barriers; protecting and restoring riparian habitat; reducing sediment loads; replenishing stream productivity; and protecting intact and high-quality key habitats. No fish habitat occurs in Long Beach west of the OHWM. However, Salmon do migrate offshore, and this plan considers strategies to reduce or eliminate sediment loads to the ocean via development controls in the shoreline area.
