Natural Progression. A. During the 1991-92 negotiations between the City of Grand Rapids and the Union (GREIU), the implementation of the PAS Wage Study revealed that PAS recommended a number of jobs for in series promotion. The Union recognized the need for training and embraced the proposal to create training programs. A window period of one (1) year from 1/1/92 to 1/1/93 will be used to develop these programs. The program and its criteria will be in operation for the affected class titles as follows:

Natural Progression. To be promoted into the next classification range as set forth in Appendix A, the employee must obtain the required education and/or certification(s) set forth in the job description for the respective classification. The Employer will notify the Union of any proposed changes to the required education and/or certification(s) for a job classification, other than changes made by the relevant governing body, and will meet and bargain the impact of the changes prior to implementation. Upon successful completion of the education and/or certification(s) for the classification, the employee will be promoted to the classification effective the following pay period. The Technical Specialist position is excluded from natural progression, Technical Specialist positions will be posted.

Natural Progression shall mean the upward movement of qualified employees within a production department shift to fill vacancies created in the Operator or Assistant Operator classifications. This movement is restricted to a movement from progressible Utility person to Assistant Operator and/or Assistant Operator to Operator. Utility Relief will be progressible only under one of the following situations: when posted to a shift to relieve or cover for a progressible Utility person, or when an opening in the Assistant classification has occurred and offers of overtime within the department have been exhausted.

  • Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee The Employer and the Union recognize the role of the joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee in promoting a safe and healthful workplace. The parties agree that a Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee shall be established for each Employer covered by this Collective Agreement. The Committee shall govern itself in accordance with the provisions of the Industrial Health and Safety Regulations made pursuant to the Workers’ Compensation Act.
