Methods Used to Understand Each Type of Impact. Academic Impact of Lost Instructional Time The MCSD has researched and purchased for implementation, Panorama, Early Warning System, for the 21-22 school year. Panorama will help the district identify at-risk students at the first sign they are struggling, understand each student’s needs using multiple indicators and take action with necessary supports and interventions. Panorama will identify students who have failing coursework, or those whose grades are trending down. Panorama will help the MCSD understand how each student’s grades have changed over time and how the student’s academic struggles may connect to attendance, behavioral, or social-emotional issues. Panorama, Early Warning System will help the MCSD take action by placing students in appropriate intervention programs for math and reading, and by continuing to track their daily progress. In addition, address other factors that may be contributing to the problem. Chronic Absenteeism The MCSD has researched and purchased for implementation, Panorama, Early Warning System, for the 21-22 school year. Panorama will help the district identify at-risk students at the first sign they are struggling, understand each student’s needs using multiple indicators and take action with necessary supports and interventions. Panorama will identify and create a watch list of students who have missed more than 10% of the school days and those who are at risk of dropping below 90% attendance-a common threshold for chronic absence. Panorama will help the MCSD understand each student’s number of absences, course absences and tardies, and if there are trends or extreme “streaks” of absences for specific students. Then, identify potential root causes of the issue. Panorama, Early Warning System, will help the MCSD take action with interventions designed to get students back in school—from individual attendance plans and community outreach, to “nudge” letters home. Methods Used to Understand Each Type of Impact. Academic Impact of Lost Instructional Time Teachers throughout the district analyzed available data from local assessments, benchmark assessments, and state assessments given in the 2021-2022 school year by comparing this data to student performance from the same time period during the 2020-2021 school year. Not only did staff analyze individual student performance for growth but analyzed the current students academic progress compared to their peers during the same time period. This allowed staff to determine if students were making academic growth, identify those who may have experienced learning loss, and identify those who would most benefit from additional instructional time. The special education department also used student IEP goals and available progress monitoring (as progress monitoring was conducted during all phases of virtual learning) to compare student progress prior to March 2020. Chronic Absenteeism Adminstrators, guidance counselors, along with the Student Assistance Team, and staff closely monitored student attendance and absenteeism rates both pre-pandemic and throughout the past 18 months. Student attendance rates showed very little variation during this time period. Student Engagement Administrators, guidance counselors, and staff met [at the beinning of the pandemic] daily to discuss student engagement, attendance, distribution of technology, distribution of necessary learning materials, along with identifying those students and staff who would benefit from improved internet access to participate in virtual learning. Students and families migrated to virtual learning almost immediately beginning in March of 2020. Several district-wide surveys were conducted allowing the district to collect data to determine what needs were not being met and provide necessary resources to meet those needs. Social-emotional Well- being The district conducted multiple surveys from March 2020 to the present for parents to notify the district of any social-emotional needs their child may be experiencing. The district maintains a Tipline that parents and students can access to reach our for help, This Tipline is in addition to the states Safe-2-Say system as the district implemented a Tipline prior to Safe-2- Say being implemented. The district also has a comprehensive Emotional Support program for those students who are experiencing emotional problems. Other Indicators N/A
