MENTOR TEACHER PROGRAM. A. The Mentor Teacher shall be a current or retired member of the bargaining unit or associated with Tecumseh Public Schools as a certified teacher/counselor. B. Each classroom teacher new to the profession who is in his/her first three (3) years in the classroom shall be provided a Mentor Teacher. The Mentor Teacher shall be available to provide professional support, instruction, and guidance. The purpose of the mentoring program is to provide a peer who can offer assistance, resources, and information in a non-threatening collegial fashion. C. Mentor Teachers must be tenured, required to undertake training in mentoring, and not currently be on an improvement plan. Training shall be completed by the start of the school year. D. All teachers meeting the requirements in Section C above may apply in writing to the Superintendent or designee by the end of the school year to be a mentor for the following year. A Joint Committee of Administrators and bargaining unit members will review the applications and award Mentor Teacher status to all eligible applicants, as determined by the committee. The committee will be composed of four (4) TEA members appointed by the TEA President and three (3) administrative representatives appointed by the Superintendent. E. The Joint Committee shall assign each mentee a mentor for a period of up to three (3) years. Teachers hired after the beginning of the school year shall be assigned a mentor prior to their 15th workday. Either the mentor or mentee may sever the relationship without explanation. In making the assignments of mentor teachers, the Joint Committee will consider that certain characteristics are critical to the role of the mentor teacher. MENTOR TEACHER PROGRAM. 0201 Purpose Mentor Teacher Program is a program of support provided by the ▇▇▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇ City School District to meet the unique needs of an individual in the first year of employment under a teaching or educational personnel license.
MENTOR TEACHER PROGRAM. A. In order to provide the best possible support to new members, a District assigned Mentor may be made available upon District request, by request of the new member, or by recommendation of the Association in accordance with Board policy. A member selected and approved to provide mentorship shall be compensated as listed in Appendix B. B. A committee consisting of teachers and administrators shall meet annually to review the SSD and other current mentor programs utilizing feedback from current programs.
MENTOR TEACHER PROGRAM. The position of mentor teacher and/or mentor coach to a new teacher will be offered to teachers with professional teacher status and is rated on his or her summative evalua- tion as exemplary or proficient. Upon appointment, the mentor teacher will receive a stipend in accordance with Article 6.9. A mentor coach will receive a stipend of $500. (See Appendix A)
MENTOR TEACHER PROGRAM. The parties acknowledge the District's obligation to administer the Beginning Teacher Assistance Program in accordance with the requirements set forth by the office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction. ALLOCATION OF FUNDS Each Mentor Teacher shall receive an annual stipend in accordance with WAC ▇▇▇-▇▇▇-▇▇▇ and 025. Each Beginning Teacher shall receive a stipend in accordance with WAC ▇▇▇-▇▇▇-▇▇▇, 045 and 050. Each Mentor and Beginning Teacher shall attend and be reimbursed by the District for travel expenses for the SPI-sponsored workshops for this program in accordance with WAC ▇▇▇-▇▇▇-▇▇▇ (4) and (5). Each Mentor and Beginning Teacher shall be provided at least three days of release time to be used to facilitate the program in accordance with WAC ▇▇▇-▇▇▇-▇▇▇ (6), (7), and (8). THE SELECTION PROCESS Mentor Teachers shall be selected by the District. Pursuant to RCW 41.59.040, classroom teachers representing the unit shall participate in the Mentor Teacher selection process in accordance with WAC ▇▇▇-▇▇▇-▇▇▇. Mentor Teachers shall be recommended by a joint screening committee composed of two (2) District and two (2) Association appointed representatives. All teachers in the District shall be notified in writing of the program, application process, and selection procedures, and the positions of the beginning teachers. Such notification shall be made as soon as possible following notification of SPI of those eligible for the program.

MENTOR TEACHER PROGRAM. The following procedures will be used to implement the mentor teacher program: The mentor teacher program shall be totally voluntary. The District shall not request or require any employee to apply for participation. Selected mentor teachers and beginning teachers shall receive a stipend on a supplemental contract for the amount recommended by the state guidelines for the Beginning Education Support Team (BEST) Program in accordance with Washington Administrative Code. Mentor and beginning teachers shall be provided release time with substitutes, travel and meals to be reimbursed through the BEST grant as provided in accordance with Washington Administrative Code. Also the beginning teachers shall receive the state allocated funding. At the end of the school year, any unspent funds from the BEST grant for each mentor and beginning teacher will be split between them and added to their stipends. No participating employee shall be subject to any additional evaluation procedure not outlined in the current collective bargaining agreement. A mentor teacher shall not in any way participate in, or contribute to, the performance evaluation of a beginning teacher. Other grant sources may also be used for mentor teacher stipends following the guidelines of the specific grant. The process for stipends will follow the guidelines of the specific grant. The process for the mentor selection shall be jointly agreed upon by the building principal and the NAT executive board or their designees.
MENTOR TEACHER PROGRAM. Participation in the Mentor Teacher Program will be voluntary and the District will not require any new or experienced employee to apply for participation. Selected mentor teachers will receive the maximum stipend and expenses for workshop and travel provided by SPI. Compensation will be on a supplemental contract. Mentor teachers and participating beginning teachers will be provided the maximum number of days of release time compensated for by the State. Release time for participating employees shall be covered by substitutes, the cost of which to be paid by the State allocation.
