Known Services. The positions of all known existing services will be pointed out to the Contractor on site. The Contractor shall take all necessary steps to ascertain the location of existing services before commencing any section of the works. Prior to the commencement of work in any area the Contractor shall carefully excavate to locate and mark the positions of all existing underground services affected by the works. He shall take all necessary precautions to protect any existing works whatsoever against damage which may arise and shall bear the full cost of the repairs to any damage caused as a result of his operations on site. Any damage to a service shall immediately be reported to the responsible authority and to the Engineer. The Contractor must liaise with all relevant authorities to satisfy himself that all existing services have been located.

Although this is not operational, it must be protected from damage. Where damaged, it must be repaired. There are 22kV and 230V overhead powerlines running along one side of the road in places. The pipeline alignment avoids this where possible, but there will be places where the pipe crosses under the powerlines.
