Higher Level Duties. The Employer may assign to an employee duties from a higher job classification for a period not to exceed six (6) months. If this period of time exceeds six (6) months, the employer will engage in bargaining with the Union. For the duration of such a temporary assignment, the employee shall receive additional compensation equal to five (5) percent of the employee’s base wages. In the event an employee is temporarily assigned the full set of duties from a higher job classification, and the lowest step of the pay range for that higher job classification exceeds the employee’s base wage by more than five percent (5%), the employee shall be paid at the lowest step of the higher pay range (or, if the position is exempt, the lowest advertised pay rate for the position) for the duration of the temporary assignment. Based on an assessment of the assignment and duties, the AVP for Human Resources may authorize, at their discretion, an increase of the base salary up to a total of twenty-five percent (25%) for the duration of the assignment. The base salary will not exceed the top of the range of the higher job classification.
