Graduate Work Clause Samples
The 'Graduate Work' clause defines the status and handling of work produced by a student as part of their graduate studies. Typically, this clause clarifies whether the intellectual property rights to research, theses, dissertations, or other academic outputs belong to the student, the university, or a third party such as a funding sponsor. For example, it may specify that a thesis remains the property of the student but that the university retains a license to use it for academic purposes. The core function of this clause is to establish clear ownership and usage rights for graduate-level academic work, thereby preventing disputes and ensuring all parties understand their rights and obligations regarding the work produced.
