The "Filling Temporary Vacancy" clause outlines the process for appointing a substitute when a position becomes temporarily vacant. Filling Temporary Vacancy. A temporary vacancy shall be filled for ten (10) working days from the list of available substitute drivers. After the initial ten (10) day period, the vacancy shall be filled by the most senior substitute desiring the vacancy, who shall then remain in the position until the regular driver returns. The substitute shall enjoy the status of a full time driver except that they shall receive only those benefits granted to a substitute driver under the Labor Agreement.

The staff recognizes that when permanent vacancies occur during the school year, it may be difficult to fill the existing instructional program from applicants within the school system without undue disruption to the existing instructional program. If no one accepts, the least senior Unsigned Spare Board operator will be assigned this work until the next two week sign up.
